Abstract

Shashi Deshpande is one of the most prominent women novelists in Indian English literature. Her novels portray the inner struggles of middle-class Indian women who seek identity, autonomy and self-realisation within the patriarchal framework of society. The paper examines feminist consciousness reflected through the female protagonists who challenge traditional norms and assert their individuality.
